IELTS Life Skills B1
Test Format: IELTS Life Skills B1
Total Duration: 22-25 Minutes
The test consists of two main phases — Phase 1 and Phase 2. The objective is to assess your ability to communicate in English on a variety of everyday topics, understand spoken English in different contexts, and engage in longer, more complex conversations than in the A1 level.
Phase 1: Speaking and Listening (Part 1a and 1b)
1b: Conversation on Familiar Topics
Duration: 6 minutes
In Phase 1b, the examiner will give you and your partner a topic to discuss. You will be expected to engage in a conversation and respond to each other on the given topic. For example, you might discuss topics like:
Work and education
Hobbies and leisure activities
Family and personal experiences
You’ll have a chance to interact with your partner, answer questions, share your thoughts, and demonstrate your ability to hold a basic conversation on a given topic.
This phase helps the examiner assess your ability to engage in extended dialogue, respond appropriately to questions, and express yourself clearly.
